Formula One 2011 Predictions
So after the most exciting season in years, the F1 circus has packed up in preparation for a long winter, or has it? At present most of the teams, at least in a truncated format are still in Abu Dhabi testing parts for next year. Top of the agenda are Pirelli tyres which are a total unknown, tyres are the most important aspect that affects the cars handling grip and balance and most teams will spend the entire winter getting to grips with them.
Expect to see cars testing this winter with all sorts of extra bits of body work poking out of them, no not a Bluetooth car kit, car mats or mobile phone accessories, but extra bits of bodywork that are intended to channel air flow to the ne wadjustable rear wings. This perhaps the most exciting change in F1 which should allow for easier over taking, complimented by the reintroduction of the KERS system.
The team I’m tipping to have stolen a jump on everyone this year is Mercedes, looking like they should have been a consistent top four challenger this year, they seemed to drop the baton mid season and were likely working on developments that could catapault them to the front this year.
Red Bull should also start strong, considering that the cars design philosophy since 2009 has been incredibly strong and the fundamental car will probably remain the same. There will be little if any driver movement in the top teams, unless of course the unimpressive Massa is shipped out in favour of a stronger driver like Kubica.
Whatever happens, if next season is anything like as exciting and close fought as the one just gone then we are all in for a treat, next year there will be an unpredicented 5 world champions in the field, proving that car performance is all the more important in a field full of such quality. I personally can't wait...
