Lotus To Run Two Formula One Teams In 2011
Thursday, December 9th, 2010In 2011, Lotus were mere new comers, drops in the huge pond that is Formula One, also rans, rookies, startups, these were all words that were being used to describe the fledgling team that aimed to revive the classic Lotus spirit of the 60s and 70s. Revive it they did not, as was expected in their first season, but Lotus managed to achieve the only target that was ever realistic, to finish as best of the three 2010 rookie teams.
With a rich heritage behind them, Mike Gascoigne at the helm and two experienced and proven race winning drivers in Jarno Trulli and Heikki Kovalinen, Lotus had the potential, backed by large loans, or pozyczka gotowkowa as the Polish say to succeed and build a strong squad for the future. Lotus are a team on the up and with a strong foundations, financial backing and bags of ambition, they could well end up like Red Bull in a few years time.
Indeed Lotus' future looks bright as it emerged today that it will not only continue to run its core Lotus Racing team, which is set to be renamed 'Team Lotus', but it will also take control of the Renault team, which will be rebranded as Lotus Renault, and use Renault engines. Confusingly, both teams will run with near identical liveries, echoing the iconic 1970s JPS sponsored cars that Senna once drove.
Lotus will have a nightmare on their hands calculating finances unless they use a loan calculator, or kalkulator kredytowy as the Polish say to keep track of everything, which they will no doubt do. Kubica is set to stay at the team while the 2nd driver is currently unnamed. Petrov is a doubt after the withdrawal of Renault's Russian backer.
Only time will tell how these teams will fare, but one would expect Lotus Renault to perform around the level that Renault did last year, while team Lotus are likely to move out of the bottom three. As to whether either team can challenge the front runners, only time will tell, they might need a few more loans, or as the Polish say szybkie kredyty
